State of Grace

In this album, Paul Schwartz reimagines sacred sounds and ancient texts into electronic music, then augments them with live vocals and instruments. Fans of classical music, new age music, folk music, and religious music may find that they are enjoying all their favorites together in one package.

State of Grace

Paul Schwartz, Composer, Musician

Sony Music Entertainment, 2000

State of Grace is the first in a three-part series of an electronic-classical opus by Paul Schwartz, award-winning writer, musician, and filmmaker. Schwartz is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and London University and is a member of ASCAP and the Actors Studio Playwrights and Directors Unit.

In this album, Paul Schwartz reimagines sacred sounds and ancient texts into electronic music, then augments them with live vocals and instruments. Fans of classical music, new age music, folk music, and religious music may find that they are enjoying all their favorites together in one package.

The album kicks off with the upbeat “Veni Redemptor Gentium,” a galvanizing piece worth turning up the volume for. Expressive vocalist Lisbeth Scott shines on several tracks, including “Amazing Grace” and “Be Still My Soul.” Near the end of the album, “Simple Gifts” features Irish tin whistles and Great Highland bagpipes.

I like to listen to State of Grace as a soundtrack for when a fresh concept is taking shape. Isn’t it amazing how music can direct our thoughts, motivations, and plans?

Have you listened to any of Paul Schwartz’s projects? What do you think of his unique style?
